TBS

The Birthing Site is a strong International community of people who educate and support each other. TBS is bringing back to society and culture a naturalistic view of pregnancy, birth and motherhood.  Advancements in technology and medicine as well as the shift to smaller nuclear families have pulled us away from what was once a collectivistic view of family and motherhood.  TBSis dedicated to supporting women through the challenges of becoming a mother and the natural redefinition of ourselves through this process.

TBS is a safe place for women to seek information and support and rediscover how to instinctually give birth.

Bringing Awareness

We spread the knowledge that birth is safe, sacred and important to women and families to lead healthy lives. Birth is a human rights issue. Canada, USA and many other countries follow the western model of maternity care, where close to 99% of all births takes place in hospitals with a cesarean rate of anywhere from 25%-95%. This is too high The World Health Organization recommends the cesarean rate should be between 10-15% at the highest. Women are leaving birth with trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder equivalent to those coming back from fighting wars. Birth should not be a fight and women deserve respect!

We are reaching millions of women worldwide who are taking back birth.

Our Core Values

●         empowerment

●         love

●         compassion

●         understanding

●         guidance

Our Four Pillars

●         education: teach from a young age that pregnancy, birth & breastfeeding are a necessary & normal part of life

●         health: bring public awareness to physiological birth being the safest option for most women & babies

●         cost: show at large the public and governments that medicalized & surgical birth are very often an unnecessary cost

●         alignment: TBS will align with organizations who hold these same values

Policy Change

TBS lobbies governments and organizations on behalf of women and babies worldwide to ensure respect and safety return to birth. Medical interventions will no longer be the go-to solution and women will no longer be caught in the intervention landslide. This will decrease trauma, vaginal tearing, hemorrhage, NICU stay for baby, infant and maternal death and the drastically decrease the cesarean rate in 95% of uncomplicated births. Birth is a human rights issue and birthing women deserve the same rights as anyone else. These rights include but are not limited to the right to safety, freedom to eat, drink and move freely, the right to be listened to and actively make decisions. Birth is sacred and extraordinary and TBS will do everything within it's power to bring back a societal comfort with birth as a natural bodily process and life event.

Disclaimer

TBS empowers women through education so moms can decide what is best for themselves and their baby at the birth. Society downplays the importance of this monumental once in a life-time, no do-over occasion. A birth is MUCH more than most people realize.

TBS provides articles, groups and social networking to help parents learn about birth and parenting. We believe women have the right to choose how they will give birth. Information provided by TBS and its contributors does not take the place of medical advice and we do not take responsibility for the decisions parents make. We believe it is up to the individual to take responsibility for their body and baby by researching and doing their due diligence in their birthing experiences.
