Tips to Birth Naturally and Avoid Pain Relief

Here are some great suggestions from our TBS community on birthing natually and avoiding intervention:

  • Stay upright
  • counter pressure
  • self-hypnosis and meditation
  • breathe deeply
  • standing and swaying your hip
  • keep moving around
  • use a birthing pool
  • hire a doula
  • birth classes
  • Walk, walk, walk
  • hot showers
  • counting breaths
  • a good supportive partner
  • visualize and focus
  • squeezing the hips
  • chirpractor
  • hot water
  • let your body move as it needs to
  • don't like down
  • don't focus on the pain, visualize your happy place and baby
  • Remember, it is what your body was designed to do
  • Educate yourself!!
  • rest in the early stages
  • wall squats
  • birthing ball
  • rock your body
  • dance
  • get excited about your new baby and focus on that
  • believe in yourself and your body
  • drink and eat as needed
  • stay at home as long as possible
  • heating pads
  • ice packs
  • belly dance
  • be certain you trust your care provider
  • prepare yourself - read and research from sound sources
  • acupuncture
  • stay active - go outside
  • massage
  • prenatal callanetics
  • kegel exercises
  • Visit Readyforbirth.com or Doulas.com
  • stay hydrated
  • move in different positions
  • nap when possible
  • try to let your pelvic muscles relax when possible
  • think of it as a running marathon, not a sprint
  • Remember, you CAN, and it feels so incredibly POWERFUL and FANTASTIC!!!!
  • breathe the baby down
  • Remember that having a baby is not a medical event and that every minute another woman is giving birth with you
  • say positive affirmations
  • watch natural birthing videos and read stories
  • Jet let it go and let labour push through you
  • Read "The Greatest Pregnanvy Ever"
